Perils of Plastics Project

This 4-part project focused on plastic pollution and included a beach clean up, participatory art build, spectacle performance, and education and advocacy, involving community members at all levels. The project created an installation from materials collected at beach clean up that simulated the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This installation was shepherded by human power and animated by eight dancers weaving through and under the installations, in the 42nd Annual Mermaid Parade winning the Judge’s Choice Award and witnessed by over 500,000 people. Environmental partners in the project were 350Brooklyn and SurfriderNYC.
